In the latest episode of Portfolio Perspectives, Tom Santa-Olalla talks with Michael Jervis, Portfolio Manager in our Multi-Asset team, about our new Security theme, and how we’re finding diversification in volatile markets.
Michael explains three ways the Security theme is being implemented through stock ideas. This includes Fortinet within cyber security, Deere in food security, and Mercado Libre as a company less exposed to geopolitical tensions and tariffs, part of our Protected Markets sub-theme.
While the market uncertainty that we’ve seen this year has led to volatility, this can also create opportunities for professional investors. Michael explains how we’ve been positioning portfolios with a healthy exposure to alternatives for diversification, and how the team is ready to invest cash into stock markets selectively as the right opportunities present themselves.
Michael also talks about role of fixed income in portfolios today. Once the dependable backbone of a balanced investment portfolio, the credentials of bonds have been seriously tested. Read his latest article, where he explores the topic of correlation in more detail.
