Sarasin & Partners – the global thematic investment manager with £15.4bn* invested on behalf of charities, private clients and institutions – has hired Matt Pumo as Head of Institutional.
Pumo, who is tasked to grow the group’s presence in the UK and explore global opportunities, has two decades of experience in the institutional space – particularly in the global consultant channel and the top end of the UK pension funds market.
His arrival further strengthens Sarasin & Partners’ institutional and international capability, demonstrating the group’s long-term commitment to managing assets in these areas, alongside the firm’s increasing presence in the US and Canada.
Pumo joins from Newton Investment Management, where he was head of UK Institutional Business Development for the past four years. Having started his career in 1994, Pumo spent the last two decades developing key relationships primarily across pension funds and investment consultants. Prior to working at Newton, he held roles at Neuberger Berman, Gartmore Investment Management and Liontrust Asset Management.
Matt Pumo says:
“I am excited by the opportunity to contribute to the strategic growth of Sarasin & Partners by taking its already reputable and relevant brand to new shores. The group’s strong focus on ESG, which is fully integrated into their thematic research process, will particularly resonate with institutions at a time of shifting global priorities. Given their long heritage in responsible investment, I believe Sarasin is particularly well-placed to manage investments for clients focussed on achieving their investment goals in a sustainable manner.”
Guy Matthews, managing partner at Sarasin & Partners, adds:
“We are thrilled to add someone of Matt’s calibre, as we look to extend our reputation as a leading global thematic investment manager in the UK and beyond. Matt’s familiarity with our core product range, as well as his extensive network of relationships in the institutional space, will be crucial to building our footprint in these key markets. In addition, Matt’s deep understanding of the needs of institutional clients will prove invaluable as we continue to enhance the Sarasin offering.”
