Our thematic investment process at Sarasin is now nearly 25 years old.
In the early days, our focus was on the embryonic digital economy, and by the early 2000s, we had turned to globalisation. After the great financial crisis, we acknowledged the deep economic and financial scars left in its wake.
Today, we believe we are facing a similarly pivotal moment. The determined shift to an “America First” agenda is leading a fragmentation of global geopolitics and economic integration. The US is adopting a more transactional approach: if countries want access to its defence capabilities, vast consumer market, or technology, they may need to meet new terms. This is prompting other nations and regions to rethink their own security, supply chains, and trade strategies.
In response, we’ve developed a new investment theme we are calling simply Security. Guy Monson, Chief Market Strategist, talks with Colm Harney, Senior Investment Strategist, about beneficiaries of these nascent trends.
