As a long-term and responsible steward of our clients’ assets, Sarasin & Partners LLP remains committed to the delivery of enduring value for our clients. We believe this means encouraging sustainable business practices that build capital and future prosperity. For this reason, we are a founding signatory to the Net Zero Asset Managers (NZAM) initiative.
Climate change is a clear and present threat to long-term economic growth. We consider climate risks and opportunities as a core part of our thematic investment process, while encouraging companies and policy makers to act to avert the worst consequences. This remains central to our Net Zero commitment to our clients.
NZAM has announced that the initiative is suspending activities to track signatory implementation and reporting, as well as removing much of its public material on best-practice case studies from its website. This follows on the heels of a number of companies across a range of sectors stepping back from sustainability-related commitments. In coming weeks, we will engage with the NZAM initiative as it seeks signatory views on next steps. We will encourage it to build on the experiences of its members to update its commitment in a manner that will reinforce meaningful action by the investment industry.
As the scientists’ warning's become more alarming, and momentum to drive action potentially stalls, long-term investors have a unique role and responsibility to make a difference.
